10 Things About Tracey

I stole these questions off another blog and thought they would be fun to do.

10 Random Things About Tracey:

What is the strangest talent you have?
I can bend my pointer finger at the first joint. It is a strange thing but something that I have met several that can't do. This makes up for the fact that I can't do a ton of things like roll my tongue. This is probably a reason that led to my foot surgery..."loose joints".

Do you play any instruments?
I always wanted to be musically inclined, but no. I used to make up songs on my keyboard when I was young and my sweet brother told me they sounded good...I think he lied.

Are your ears pierced?
Yes. I tend to wear earrings everyday I am at work, but weekends I live in yoga pants and no jewelry. Last night I ran out to the movies and forgot my wedding ring!

Have you ever broken a bone?
I broke my collar bone when I was a Junior in high school from a car accident. Recently the Dr. cut my bone in two places in my foot and put in plates and screws to move the bone over in my foot, so I guess that kind of counts as a broken bone?

Books or Movies?
Books. They are always better. In fact, I have read two books this week alone! I love to read.

Who do you talk to the most on the phone?
Nathan. I don't like to talk on the phone so it usually is just him or I calling each other about Tait, lunch breaks, or other logistical issues. I live for sweet and simple and quick! Text messaging has changed my life and connected me to friends more often, but I think it has also hurt my conversation skills to some degree.

What is your favorite movie?
I am not one to define "favorite". My favorite movie will change with the mood or timing of when I watch it. I am thinking and really can't even pick what it would be.

What's your favorite sandwich?
Strange question...but I would have to say BLT. I love BLT sandwiches and even more with sliced avocado.

IF you had had a girl, what would you name her?
If it were up to me it would be Taryn, but Nathan hates that name. We tried every combination of names when I was pregnant and could never agree. We came close with Reese and Alexis.

What songs are on your playlist?
I love alternative music. Regina Spektor is awesome and I usually put her on Pandora to hear other music like that. I also love country, some rap and pop. I like ballads and slower music to anything fast paced. It doesn't matter what genre the music is for me, it has to do more with it being a song I can listen to that is slower and has a good melody.

Banished to Bed for 72 hours

I am banished to bed for 72 hours due to a foot surgery yesterday. That means I will be able to get ahead on homework (hopefully, if I can get motivated), playing on the internet (probably too much) and watching daytime T.V. (yuck!). The best part is having my wonderful husband take care of me and cuddling with my favorite little man, Tait.

I wanted to document some of the fun things going on with Tait since I actually have time to put my thoughts down on "paper."

Potty Training
Tait is doing great with potty training. We have been putting him in underwear at nights and on weekends, but still sending him to school in a pull-up. The Thursday before last he told me he wanted to wear big boy underwear to school. I put him in some and said a prayer for his teachers (they are wonderful!). He did great! He has been averaging 1 accident a day since then, which I think is pretty darn great. Yesterday he did his first BM in the potty at school (does them at home for me, but I think it is because I remind him everytime he sits on the potty). I have been giving him blue M&M's (blue is his favorite color) for everytime he goes to the potty at school. This was the incentive he needed at school and since they can't give them to him there, I just show him his sheet when he gets home and he gets his treat for dessert!
I am soooo proud of him and can't stop telling him how he is such a big boy. He kind of rolls his eyes...guess I tell him how wonderful he is a bit too much, but I don't care! I love that boy!!

Nathan has been teaching Tait his letters with flash cards. In only about 2 weeks the boy has learned most of his letters! He still gets tripped up on some but he knows most of them and gets them perfect! The other day we were watching a movie and when the letters "DVD" came on the screen Tait pointed and said excitedly "DYD". He got one wrong, but I was so proud because he did it on his own and was trying so hard...and come one, a V and a Y look so similar! This boy is so smart!

Tait is not very musical. He doesn't sing much or dance, but every now and then he will want to sing a song or dance like people on T.V. The other night we were laying in bed and I asked him if he wanted to sing. His first choice of song is always "the abcd song", then it will be itsy-bitsy spider, then the "sunshine song" (You are my sunshine), a couple more and we always finish with "Puff the Magic Dragon". He got Puff The Magic Dragon book from Steph and James for his first birthday and he LOVES it. He loves anything dragon related!
The other night I started singing Puff and Tait told me to stop. He then went into a dramatic rendition of the Spider song complete with arm movements and dramatic singing. He was so funny. I took him to the other room to sing for his Dad and he completely clammed up. I guess he won't be a performer!

So Tait has decided he doesn't want to sleep in his own bed and has been sleeping in ours. Before you guys lecture me on this, I tried to get him to sleep in his own room. One night I was in class and Nathan locked him in his room and watched through the monitor. Usually Tait will just fall asleep in his rocking chair when we do this and this time he cried so hard that he threw up. Nathan refused to do that ever again, he felt so bad. So I took some advice from my friend Lily who reminded me that he isn't going to want to sleep with us forever, he will grow up and be too big for us. Since he is our one and only and there will be no more...I figure what the hay! Tait sleeps with us everynight and goes back and forth cuddling with me and Nathan. I can't say I mind it, how often do we get to cuddle with our little ones for hours on end. Plus I get more sleep with him in my bed rather than trying to put him in bed every couple of hours. I tried that and was a walking zombie for a week. Since I work full-time I don't have the luxury of taking a nap during the day, so I think this is the best thing for our family at this time. I never was one to let a baby sleep in the parent's bed, but I guess this is just one of those things that you end up doing different after you actually have a kid!

Tait is the MOST affectionate and sweet kid. He hugs and kisses me constantly. He tells us he loves us. He says thank you and welcome. He puts his empty cups in the sink for us. He is just all around a fabulous kid and I thank God everyday that he is my son. I honestly could not ask for a better kid!!

Captain Tait's Second Birthday Party

Captain Tait celebrated his second birthday today with a pirate birthday party. Yes, we go overboard. We know that we won't be able to do this every year, but we have so much fun celebrating this wonderful gift from God. Tait truly makes our lives complete and we like to take every chance to make him feel as special as he is in our eyes!

Here is how cute my two-year old looked. I can not believe he is two. He looks so big and grown up. This boy is such a cutie and is going to be trouble some day! I laughed at this picture because he is holding a football and a soccer ball...Tait is all about sports! It proves that boys are just wired different than girls from the very start! I do love to see his personality and what things he is into. In fact one of the mothers at the party said that she sees Tait run around constantly at daycare with a football. I guess he is the same at daycare and at home!

Here is our amazing cake. We got this from a local bakery called Shelby Lynn's. They do an AMAZING JOB!! The cake was delicious too. The bottom layer was white cake with strawberry filling, the second layer was chocolate with espresso filling (the best by far) and the top barrel was white with coconut. Kyle said we should have done Root Beer flavor for the barrel...ha ha!
I love this picture. Tait and Owen are having a little conversation.
Here is a picture of the ball pit. We got this on Amazon for $40 bucks! We filled it up with balls and the weather was nice enough that we got to put it outside for the kids to run wild. This summer I can hook it up to a water hose and the kids will go wild with the cannons that shoot water. I can't wait for the Memorial Day Bash!!!
We had so much fun celebrating Tait's second birthday. I know next year we will probably do Jump Zone or another place like that. My feet and back will thank me (ton of set up and clean up on this party), but I am a little sad that we won't be able to do as much for him in decorating. All in all we had a wonderful day and I am thankful for my little if I can just slow down this whole growing up thing!

Tait's Second Birthday Trip to the Aquarium

For Tait's second birthday we decided to take him to Dallas to visit the Aquarium. We stayed with Nathan's brother Jared and his wife Kim. We had a BLAST! The aquarium was a ton of fun seen through Tait's eyes.

The funniest part, that we can't stop talking about, was when Tait saw a HUGE Crocodile. He turned around with a look of shock on his face...
I was afraid that I hadn't had a chance to catch it on camera, so I told him to look again. Even on the second look he was still shocked at the size of the thing.

Tait and Bunny got to feed a Toucan. He LOVED it. I think I definitely have an animal lover on my hands. This boy wants to touch every animal he sees. I guess I should have known when he knew all of his animal sounds, even obscure ones like a hyena and coyote, by age one.
Our family had so much fun. I can't wait until this year when I can take Tait to the Tulsa Zoo. I know he will be so excited seeing a real elephant and I can't wait for the weather to hurry up and get warm!!!
Next I will do a post about his birthday party today! It was so much fun!

Tait and the lemon juice

Tait and the Lemon Juice

What a stinker! This is what Nathan and Tait were up to when I went to Walmart to pick up a few things. Nathan said he was adamant about drinking the lemon juice and grabbed it out of the fridge. He did taste it once and made a sour face. He wasn't going to fall for it again...but he sure makes you think he is drinking it. ha ha. I love how he tries to rope poor Dixie into the trouble. This boy brightens my day!!!
