Tait loves his sister

Overheard:
"You're so good sissy. You're so pretty."

I asked him if he loved having a sister
"Yes!"
"What do you like about her?"
"Her pretty smile and cute laugh"

I hope he feels this way about her forever!

Lola is 15 months!

Lola Bean, you are 15 months old!  Time sure has flown.  I love these posts because it is fun to look back at last year and see what you were doing.  This time last year you were crinkling up your little nose when you smiled, you do the same thing today...

So, what are you up to this month?:
  • You are still wearing 6-12 month clothes.  The other day I put you in an outfit and realized it was 6-9 month.  Today I just got rid of a couple of pants that you wore last week and realized they were 3-6 months.  They fit you perfect around the waist, but did look a bit like capris.  You seem to have a big belly, but you are really small.   Someone at Little Gym mentioned about how small you are compared to some of the other babies that are younger than you.  I don't notice how small you are because you seem to keep up with the other babies so well and you don't seem all that small to me.
  • You are wearing a size 3.5 shoe.  You have a foot that is a 3.5 and the other is a 3 (sizing up just a tad to give you room to grow), so it has been challenging to find shoes that fit both feet well.
  • You have moved off waffles.  At first you wanted cheese everyday and would point at the fridge and say "cheee".  Now you have started to go into the pantry and pull out crackers.  You also love cereal.  At this point you pretty much want what ever you see.  We went to Walmart this weekend and you screamed at all the food.  You wanted to eat everything.  You also throw a fit if you think someone is eating something different and you scream until we share.
  • The pacifier is still something you seem to love.  I use it to put you down for the night.  You pull the blanket out of your crib and find a pacifier when you are starting to get tired.  Then, you want to crawl up in my lap and cuddle until you fall asleep.  You are such a cuddler.  You love to lay in my lap with a blanket and just let me hold you.
  • You are still not much of a talker.  You can say Momma and started to say it a ton this weekend. You also say "Dada".  You pointed at the iPad and would say "dada".  Daddy was in Brazil so you are used to seeing him on the screen and would point to it anytime you missed him.  You have said "Tait", "That", "Didi" (Dixi), "Chee"(cheese), "mo" (more), and others.  You say these very selectively and are just not that much of a talker.  though this weekend you have started babbling a bit more than normal.
  • You love to wave "bye-bye" and even say the words to everyone.  You wave when we leave places, wave at people walking by and I have even seen you wave to birds as they fly away.  You also blow kisses to lucky people who are leaving.  You are such a joy!
  • Books are your favorite thing this month.  You love for me to read to you and have me read the same book several times a day.
  • This month you did something I never thought I would have to face.  You pooped in the tub when you were taking a bath with your brother.  He was mortified.  He jumped three feet in the air to get out of the tub!  I don't think he will ever take a bath with you again (I can't blame him)
  • I have started the "1. 2. 3." counting when I want you to listen.  You are catching on faster than your brother did.  I never have to get to 3 and most of the time you come on 1.  I am glad you are listening to me when I tell you no, though you make it certain that you are not happy about it!
Most of all, you are still such a sweet soul.  You are such a spunky little girl who does not perform on demand and you do things when and how you want to.  You don't allow anyone to convince you do to something unless you truly want to do it!  I hope you keep that independent spirit and become your own person. Because the person we see is a wonderful and sweet little girl who just likes to make others smile when they are around her.

We love you Lola Bean!

I guess you decided this photo shoot was over...

Lola's 13 month and 14 month post

Well, it happened.  I skipped two months worth of posts.  I hate that I did this because these two months had so many new things happen!  I will try and write these down as best I can remember them.

  • We took you in a week ago and you weighed 19.5 lbs.  I am not sure where that is on the chart, but you are still my little girl.  You might have a belly, but you are still very short and petite.
  • You are still wearing size 6-12 months and some 12 months clothes.  In fact, today you wore a shirt and skirt that was size 6-9 months.  Like I said, you are still quite small and the 6-9 month clothes are not tight or looking "too small" for you.  I have a ton of 18 month Fall clothes and wonder if those will be big when the weather changes.  Luckily, I don't think 12 month and 18 month are THAT different, so maybe they won't be too awful big when it gets time to wear them.
  •  At this age, your brother drank a sippy cup of milk first thing in the morning and another before bed.  You are just not that interested in milk.  You take a couple of drinks, but you prefer to fill your tummy with real food.  Your favorite food now is waffles.  Every morning you want me to make you a waffle and you eat it while you are walking around the house or into school.  Last night and tonight you started pointing at the toaster and yelling for me to get you a waffle for dessert.
  • You are still addicted to the pacifier.  We have taken it away except for nighttime.  However, you are a terrible sleeper.  You just do not want to sleep alone in your room and it takes us hours to get you down at night sometimes.  I often wonder why you fight sleep so bad, but by now I think we are used to it.  I let you sleep with us sometimes, but you end up kicking me in the face and your dad and I are exhausted come morning time.
  • On your due date, June 20th, you started walking!!  It was so exciting and now you walk everywhere.  Every evening I pick you up from school and you walk to Brother's classroom to get him.  It takes us forever because you have to stop and look in every window to wave to kids and touch everything you see, but you are so happy to be exploring that I don't want to rush you or not let you explore.  I do pick you up when we get to Tait's room because there are too many small toys you are anxious to play with.
  • Today you officially graduated physical therapy. The therapist said you are doing great and have come so far.  You still have a preference to so things with your right leg first, but she said that is normal since you have done it for so long.  You only do it when you try new things for the first few times and then will go with both sides.  She said this is probably because your right abs are stronger.  I am so happy that you have come so far and you are continuing to be a strong woman.
  • You still have 7 teeth.  Four on top and three on the bottom.  You have been teething pretty bad lately and gnawing on everything.  However, I have no idea what teeth are breaking through or when they will finally come.  I am ready for teething to be over with!
  • I usually fix your hair every morning before school and put it in a ponytail (Pebbles style) with a bow.  If I do this you often will leave your bow in the entire day.  Your hair is still so fine and silky that bows just slide out unless it can be secured with an elastic.
  • The words you know now are:  momma (but you only say this if you are mad and I am not stopping what I do to pick you up.  You don't say it often because you have me wrapped around your little finger), dada, ball (ba), doll (da), go (you say this to Dixie when you want her to leave you alone, complete with your hand in her face), Tait (ta...you have only said this a couple of times), bubba (buh), that (dat) and more (mo).  You make sounds often but you don't say words all that much.  I am not quite sure when you will start talking more and not just making sounds and grunts to get what you want.  You do sound like you have a little accent already though!
  • You love for us to read you books.  They mentioned all of the books you insist on them reading at day care and tonight you brought me your books and sat in my lap for me to read them.
  • You also LOVE music.  You shake side to side and sometimes put your fingers up in the air when you are dancing.  You have figured out how to play music on your toys and keep hitting the buttons to listen to song after song.  You are my musical little girl!
  • You love to carry around your little doll.  You hug it to your chest and carry it around so sweetly.  I am optimistic that you will be my little girly girl.  But don't worry, you make awesome car sounds when you pick up a car so Brother is teaching you well.  You are also obsessed with balls.  Maybe you will be my little softball player!  Your favorite toy has to be the push around car that you love to climb in and out of when we play outside.  You love to be outside and run up to the car as soon as we go out.  I even took it to get your pictures made this last weekend so I can remember how much you loved it.  I don't think your brother ever liked the car as much as you do!

Oh Lola!  You make our lives so wonderful.  Your brother lights up every morning when you come into his room to wake him up and you are my little shining light when my day is bad.  I love your smile and that silly way you look at me out of the side of your eye when you are acting coy.  I love that you run to the door when daddy and Tait come home and that you run to me as fast as you can (quite wobbly still sometimes) when I pick you up at daycare.  Lola you are our little bean and sprout up sunshine whenever you walk into the room.  We love you sweet girl!

Here are some pictures we have taken over the last couple of months:

Lola Is One!

My little Lola bean has gone and turned one!  How did that happen so fast?  I look back at the last year and it has gone by so quickly.  I think this year went even faster than Tait's first year.  It was a fun one and I am so proud of my little girl and her sweet heart.

Tait woke up so excited that Lola was 12 months today"
She was pretty proud of herself as well:

Lola, What are you up to this month:
  • I am not sure how much you weigh. We take you in Monday for your 1 year appointment.  We will see then how big you are an dhow much you have grown.  I am betting you are between 19 and 20 lbs.  Even though that sounds so big, you are still quite small compared to other babies your size.
  • You are wearing 6-12 month in all of your clothes.  I have put you in some 12 month things, but they are still too big for you.  Most of your zippered sleepers are still 6-9 month size.  I still have you in size 4 diapers as well.
  • You are off of the bottle!  The week before you turned one you decided that you were fine without it.  We took you off and started giving you milk in a sippy and you haven't looked back since.  You were an easy one to wean off of bottles.  Let's hope the pacifier will be as easy in a few months.  I haven't weaned you from that quite yet since I wanted to do one thing at a time.
  • You are standing.  You don't do it often without keeping your grip on something but you are doing it more and more each day.  This morning I was wearing a maxi skirt and you were holding onto my skirt and walking with me.  I am certain you could walk alone if you wanted to, but you seem to not be ready to start that quite yet.
  • You are holding strong at 6 teeth, two on bottom and four on top.  I haven't seen any new ones recently start to break through.
  • The big news this month is that when I picked you up from school yesterday they had your hair in a pony on the top of your head!  It was super cute and reminded me that I should start doing more with your hair.  Even though you don't have much hair still, you have enough to start styling and making you look like pebbles!
I have a few other pictures to add just because they are cute:

Yesterday I went into the kitchen to find Tait has poured himself a bowl of cereal and was reading the back of the box.  Sometimes I forget how big he is and how much he has grown over the last five years.  This boy makes my heart ache at how much I love him as well.

He certainly loves his little sister and tells you how cute you are everyday.  He tells you all the time how much he loves you and that you are his favorite little sister.  He was sneaking you some Captain Crunch cereal in the picture below and telling you how big you were and how proud he was of you.

You were pretty shocked at being 12 months as well!

Tait's newest obsession is trying to get around the fireplace with his arm strength.  He has made it about 3/4th around using just his arms and is so proud when he gets that far.

On your actual birthday we had a family day.  We went to Starbucks and then went to a local cafe in the Springdale airport.  Afterwards, we stopped at Bliss Cupcakes to buy you a cupcake for your birthday.  As much as you love sweets, you were not much of a fan of the cupcake.  You picked at it, but you didn't dig in as much as I expected.

Today (on Saturday) we planned a birthday party at the local splashpark.  Unfortunately, temps in the high 40's forced us to move the party indoors.  We decided to go ahead and have it at home.  We had a Flamingo party because of the adorable outfit I had bought you.  We planned the party around this cute outfit, very fitting for my life now with a girl.  ha ha.

Shelby's Lynn Cake Shoppe did your cake and she did a fantastic job once again.  Your dad had a cute cartoon of a little girl standing behind a flamingo and imitating it.  This was her take on the cartoon.  I loved the sparkly gold that stood out on the cake.  The little girl was adorable as well.  She made you a rose smash cake that looked too beautiful to eat.  We had a Neopolitan flavored cake, so it was layered with chocolate, strawberry and vanilla!  It was delicious!!!

Some of our friends came to help us celebrate.  Sydney, Mason, Gabby, Cora, Evan, Emily, Myles and many more that are so special to us!

We asked our friends to bring donations to the local NICU instead of presents to help other parents going through what we went through a year ago.  Those weeks were very difficult, but we had good friends to help us through the time and it was so nice celebrating with those friends your first birthday this year.  Some friends broke the no gift rule and you got a little spoiled still.  You loved your kitty that Cora got you.  I have said it many times, but I have to say it again that we are so lucky to have such good friends!

Lola, we love your sweet smile and your sweet heart.  You are the most wonderful little girl that we could have ever imagined.  You may not sleep through the night alone and you may think that being held is a good alternative to walking on your own, but we wouldn't trade one thing on your sweet and feisty personality!  You are the perfect addition to our family.  As Tait tells us often "I think we will keep you."
